Gary is currently in production on the action thriller “1000 BULLETS” his ninth feature film as director. The independent action film has begun shooting in Los Angeles with post work to be completed in LA and Ohio at P13 Entertainment. Along with directing, Gary is also co-producing and supervising visual effects work for the film. In February, Gary directed “BOOGEYMAN 3” for Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert’s Ghost House pictures. The film is a modern-day supernatural horror tale and is a sequel to Ghost House Pictures first theatrical horror hit. BOOGEYMAN 3 teams Gary up again with producers Sam and Robert, his producers from the XENA and HERCULES TV series. BOOGEYMAN 3 is slated for release through Sony Entertainment in early 2009.

Gary was born in Mt Clemens, Michigan and began at an early age, making experimental films in Super 8 and 16 mm at an early age. After graduating from High school and majoring in commercial art from the Pankov Career Center, Gary’s feature film career first began when he landed a job as a PA on Sam Raimi’s “CRIMEWAVE”.

In 1984, Gary formed Acme Special Effects and quickly became the leading FX Company in Detroit, creating special effects for numerous commercials and industrial promos. Soon after, Acme advanced to feature films, in which Gary handled special effects for “THOU SHALL NOT KILL”, “MOONTRAP”, “FROSTBITER” (which Gary also co-produced) John Woo’s “HARD TARGET” and Sam Raimi’s “EVIL DEAD 2” and “ARMY OF DARKNESS”.

In the early 1990’s, Gary began moving his career in another direction. In 1993, Gary made his directorial debut with the sci-fi film MOSQUITO. Along with creating the story and co-writing the screenplay, Gary helped raise financing, and supervised the films special effects. MOSQUITO stars Gunnar Hansen (Leatherface in the original TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE) and Ron Asheton (from the rock group THE STOOGES). MOSQUITO, made for under $300,000, was released by Hemdale in 1995 and continues to be a cult favorite on cable networks.

After the success of his debut, Gary moved to Los Angeles to further his filmmaking career. Along with developing several new film projects, Gary continued working in special effects as a freelance artist for KNB FX Group. In 1995 Gary renewed his alliance with Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert’s ‘Renaissance Pictures’ and moved to New Zealand to direct XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS” starring Lucy Lawless and Renee O‘Connor. Gary directed second unit on the first season of "XENA" then was promoted to main unit where he directed several episodes.

Returning to Los Angeles, Gary directed second unit on the short lived ABC series SPY GAME. Next up, a phone call from cult filmmaker Ray Denis Steckler (one of Gary’s film heroes) sent him sailing off to Lake Tahoe, Nevada. An offer to work with Ray on a movie was too good to pass up. Wasting no time, Gary quickly dove into the guerilla filmmaking world of Ray Denis Steckler, co-directing “SUMMER FUN” with him.

For the next several years, Gary traveled between Los Angeles, New Zealand, Canada, and Florida directing episodes of such shows as "XENA," "HERCULES: THE LEGENDARY JOURNEYS," starring Kevin Sorbo, Disney's "HONEY, I SHRUNK THE KIDS," starring Peter Scolari and "SHEENA," starring Gena Lee Nolan for Columbia/Tri-Star. Between television shows, Gary continued in the special effects field working with KNB FX on FROM DUSK TILL DAWN, SPAWN, OUTER LIMITS, VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED and THE FACULTY.

In the summer of 1999, Gary returned to feature films when he directed SPIDERS (starring Lana Parilla) for Nu Image - Millennium Films. Under Gary's direction, the film bridged the gap between the modern sci-fi films of today and the classic giant monster movies of the 1950s.

Gary’s second directorial effort for the company was the Sci-Fi Thriller CROCODILE 2: DEATH SWAMP, (starring: Martin Kove, Heidi Lenhart and James Parks) a follow up to “CROCODILE” directed by Tobe (Texas Chainsaw) Hooper. CROCODILE 2 was shot at the Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad, India and released through Lions Gate Films.

A call in early 2004 with a two picture deal from filmmakers Bruce Campbell and Josh Becker had Gary traveling to Sofia, Bulgaria to direct second unit for “THE MAN WITH THE SCREAMING BRAIN” and “ALIEN APOCAYLPSE”. In addition, Gary also handled the creature effects for Becker’s ALIEN APOCAYLPSE. The two picture deal turned into a three picture deal for Gary when he directed second unit on PUPPET MASTER VS. DEMONIC TOYS.

Gary returned to LA and directed his forth feature film "JOLLY ROGER" from a screenplay penned by Gary and his Kinetic Filmworks partner Jeff Miller. Following that, Gary traveled back to Eastern Europe in 2005 to direct ”PLANET RAPTOR” (starring Steven Bauer, Vanessa Angel, Ted Raimi and Peter Jason) and “XENOPHOBIA” (starring C. Thomas Howell, Ron Silver and Giancarlo Esposito ) for the Sci Fi Channel and Freshwater Entertainment. Both films were shot at Castel Film Studios in Bucharest, Romania.

In the fall of 2005, Gary joined fellow director Robert Kurtzman and his company, P13 Entertainment and co-produced “THE RAGE” Kurtzman’s homage to the grindhouse films of the past. THE RAGE was released world wide in early 2008 by Screen Media Entertainment. Along with producing for P13, Gary also handles FX supervision for the studio.

In the summer of 2006, Gary traveled to New Mexico to work on “The Horror Chronicles” two films produced by Dark Lot Entertainment: LIVING HELL and UNDEAD OR ALIVE. Gary directed second unit as well as supervised the special make-up effects for P13 on both films.

Between writing producing and directing 2007 was a busy year for Gary. In March, he directed “GHOULS” his seventh feature film (starring William Atherton, Erin Gray, James DeBello and Kristin Renton). The film was shot in Romania for Active Entertainment and made its cable TV premiere on the Sci Fi Channel. First look Studios will release GHOULS on DVD in September 2008.

In July 2007, Gary produced the film “THE DEAD MATTER” for Midnight Syndicate Films and first-time director Edward Douglas. Post production and visual effects work on the film is currently underway with an expected finish date of December 2008.
